In 2013 our annual Tom Clark walk went as planned on Wednesday June 5th, starting from Aldridge and making our way via Brownhills to Chasetown. Members of the party came from far and wide - Stoke on Trent, Gloucester, the Forest of Dean, the Newcomen Society, as well as the Ramblers.
Folk came and went as the day progressed, some finishing at lunchtime, and the stalwarts arriving home at around 9.00pm. Three pubs were involved - the Boatman's Rest, the Royal Oak, and the Uxbridge Arms, all providing an excellent range of real ales. Lunch cost us £2 each! And we were all well fed with quality and quantity.
Our leader John Foley regaled us with memories of Tom and kept us informed of the local historical interest in the area - limestone, coal, canals, marl pits, etc., and we were delighted to view Chasewater full again. Tom's sisters Kath and Pat joined us for lunch, and have entered the date in their diaries for next year. We look forward to it.
