Announcement for the award of Rambler of the Year 2014
by Steve Brittain
"Many thanks to those of you who gave nominations for Rambler of the Year 2014. At the last Committee meeting, we had a long discussion and based on the following, I am now able to announce the winner of this year’s award.
This person took over the organisation of the Ridges and Tops walks in November 2010 which means that he has been carrying out this work for exactly four years. He is a competent and well-respected leader at all levels, and a much valued member of the Group.
This person has been one of the Task Force members since the late 1990s, which means that he has been carrying out this important work even longer than Roger Gibbs!
This person has also taken part in library research work, which involves searching copies of Council minutes dating back to the 1920s and 30s for reference to possible footpaths. The information is then used by Rights of Way officers to check out paths to go onto the Definitive Map.
I'm sure that most of you will have guessed by now that I am proud to present the award of Rambler of the Year 2014 to .. BERNARD JAMES."
